Hello Y'all! Not sure who here is famillar with Lisa Taylor (she use to do mid-days on Z100 WHTZ in NYC back in the early 90's and left in 2001) um anyways, I looked online- cause last I had checked, she left NY to go to LA to do acting and then moved to Nashville and worked on CMT for a while back in the early 2000's. I looked online the other day, and just happen to stumble upon her online! (I found her on LiteFavorites.com) but I don't think there are any real djs on that station (I think it's just an internet radio station) the number doesn't even work... I e-mailed the PD about this and he told me that the djs are "taking time off- and they should be back soon! Thanks for listening!" but that leads me to believe since I've never heard any real djs on there that it's not an actual station where djs broadcast from, and if they do it's probably voice tracked- I've listened a few times- but I don't hear any djs, just music. Anyways, I found her on KPLX 99.5 the Wolf (KPLX) it said on radiotime.com that she was voicetracking on WSM too (in Nashville) but I listened and nope- she isn't- and they have a different morning show then the one in Dallas. (it says on radiotime.com that both WMS and KPLX are both symmalcasted on 99.5, but one is in Nashville and the other is in Dallas) but it sceems as though WSM has a different line up then KPLX. (and I listened to WSM today and it appears they have a different morning show, they are just titled 'wake up with the wolf'" along with KPLX in Dallas. anyways, thought I'd post this because I am excited!! (and I try to catch her show for a few hours or at least an hour before classes) everyday this week. Well thought I'd share with you all! Has anyone heard about this? Amber.
Omg! I loved her, then she got replaced by Shelly Wayed in 2001, rght? Totally remember her! I'm going to check her out. Thank you for this!
I remember her. Never was crazy about shelly wade but wow funny how old faces pop up.
Yeah, now Shelly Wade is doing weekends, while Ryan Seacrest is doing middays. What a crappy slot that is though. Lisa was one of the most successful in mid days though.
Agreed! I can't stand Shelly Wade!!!! I remember the day Lisa signed off, my cousin recorded her last day on casset for me, god knows where that is though. But yes, Lisa was definitely the best at middays! (she's the annicial person who made me want to go into radio broadcasting!) and here I am at University studying broadcasting lol. I'm feeling like I should contact her and tell her what an inspiration she's been to me and all! I started listening to her since I was 8 years old! And I'm really glad she's back though!!!!! :) (it's a little strange to hear her in the mornings, and it's strange to hear her doing country) guess I'm still use to her Z100 days. But it is awesome that she's back though! Glad that most of you remember her and sceems like as big of a fan as me!
Amber.
You should let her know that. I'm sure it would mean a great deal.
KPLX wolf = country? like WWLF and WDAF-FM. branding: newest country or today's best country right?
Yeah i'm not a big fan of the Ryan seacrest show. local tallent is dieing, unless you're a smaller markit FM like WXCV.
John
Hi John, yes I believe that's correct. Yeah that's true; local tallent is dying, which is sad to me. And I've never been a fan of Ryan Seacrest either. I was always a huge fan of Rick Dees too. Yes, I think I will contact her, and let her know that! I was going to, but school/college life keeps me busy! But now that I'm home on break, it doesn't give me any excuse not to contact her!
Amber
I agree that local personalities are dying. So too is talk in the morning. How execs can sit in an office and try to find ways to compete with the i-pod and other music devices where you can be your own DJ is beyond me. The only markets worth a damn in the radio industry anymore are news, talk, and current music. The rest can be thrown away. Between people having comercial free radio on their phones and sattellite radio, there is not much worth listening to on comercial radio. The only sort of sindicated personalities I care for are Opie and Anthony. But the way they conduct a lot of their shows makes them more like local personalities to New York who are just broadcasted to a national audience.
hey everyone. its always interesting to hear the new jingles/presentation and voiceover guys.
I'm also into the enginearing side of things, too .
John
I still have to say that elvis Duran and the Morning show is still doing well. I had a feeling tat they died down after their sindication, but when you catch then on the IHeartRadio app with no commericials and no music, you hear their full blown conversations straight through and they still got it.
Local talent is dying though... You're right. CBS turning WXRK 92.3 to a top40 station as it was in the market for rock for many years was one of the stupidest decisions to ever make. Z100 still leads the radings, and they always have. WPLJ 95.5, has tried to compeat and they've died and WQHT 97.1, hot97 before it was a hiphop station it was a hot CHR and Z100 still beat them in the radings. Hard to compete with a station that started out top40 and made their name being the number one hit music station in New York.
The z morning zoo has lost it's edge.
I agree with you. The Z morning Zoo wasn't what it use to be... or isn't what it use to be.... they aren't funny anymore. And since it is now syndicated, if I listen to the intire thing, I'll hear the same thing every single hour, I'm thinking this is because of their tape delay. That kind of scares me- I'm going to school for broadcasting- and now local tallent is dying... radio isn't what it once was.... so do you think those of us like myself who are coming out of school into the radio field will have a chance? Because I know it's all about the experience, that's why going to grad school in my case probably isn't the smartist idea... but I don't know though... any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Amber.
You certainly have a chance. Stations need fresh on air talent.
Oh I see. Thanks. (smile) that's true, and I suppose the smaller markets really need/look for/pride themselves on the local talent opposed to somewhere, like NYC... like I'd probably have a better chance (when just starting out anyway) in somewhere like a small town then a big city like NYC... (I'll have to work my way up) which isn't always a bad thing though. Any more thoughts on this?
Amber.
Well I just went to a tour at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and honestly it's all about who you know in that business. You do great on your internship, someone will recognize that you're good for on air talent. There's a lot of cindication and voice tracking going on, but it's all about whose bringing in the radings. So don't ever down yourself and don't ever be negative about that because it's all about what you have to bring to the table. If you have a great show, great ideas, and can put something on the air that brings listeners, and brings radings, you're golden! Good luck, from one broadcaster to another. I'm really considering on attending CSB after going there today. It was awesome!
I really think one of the reasons I'm loving the morning show lately is because their interaction with their listeners has been extremely awesome! I can't tell you how many people from the show always respond to me on Twitter, and I really like when a radio show does that.
Hey!! Oh awesome!!!! Glad you liked the school! And I agree, it definitely is all who you know in that business. I actually have a close family friend in radio (not mentioning names) lol who went to school where I go- so it's pretty awesome to walk in her shoes- or not her shoes persay, but attend the same program! :) Oh wow that's cool that the morning show contacts you on twitter. I too love the personal interactions that the on air folks give- or most-of them anyways do. I recently found out that Lisa Taylor is solo on KPLX now. Chris Sommer left because of family reasons, and Paul Coffee left, well because sounds like they let him go. Wow both long-time broadcasters there, I think Chris had been there for 20 years!! wow!!! Well no offence, but I was never really a big fan of Paul Coffee anyways- he kinda ruined it for me- just cause Lisa was always the stand-byer (she'd only talk here and there) it never really featured just Lisa- it was the wake up with the wolf show with Paul Coffee, Lisa and Chris. So I'm glad that Lisa is back on top, solo where she belongs!!! This gives me more of an incentave to contact her now I guess lol! :) Just thought I'd let y'all know!!!! So I'll definitely be listening tomorrow to Lisa Taylor in the morning! :)
Amber.
Omg, soooooo awesome! She deserves that!
Yes! She absolutely does!!! I did listen today like a crazy person but only caught like half of the show lol for about an hour lol. But yes I am quite excited!! (didn't think Paul and Chris would ever leave) didn't think they'd let them go. But if ratings were slipping, then that's probably why. If Lisa held the #1 slot for Z100 in the 90's then I'm sure she can bring the ratings on KPLX to where they should be, #1! (cause there are many country stations in texas) lol but now that she's by herself, let's see what this will do? I know she can bring it to where they need to be lol! :)
